Easter

Easter was more of a weekend event for us this year than one day, but I think we have found we like spreading things out. We started the weekend Friday night with a BBQ with some friends which was fun and definitely gave the boys a chance to run their wiggles out.

Then we came home to start our eggs dying. This year I thought it would be fun to do "dinosaur eggs" instead of the normal egg dying process....yes the thought of vinegar for this pregnant mom might have been a factor in the decision!

So we got our cups and choose the colors we wanted (all you need is water with food coloring added to it):

The boys each took turned deciding on a color, helping to add the drops and then stirring:

Each hard boiled egg was lightly cracked and then put in one of the cups:

Then we put our eggs in the fridge to "sleep" for the night and we all headed to bed as well.

The next morning (after a few other events) it was time to see how our eggs turned out.

I made the boys put on their paint aprons because I had been warned that the food coloring on the eggs can be a little messy, but ours weren't that bad as you can see by future pictures were they loose the aprons.

We pulled the eggs out of the dye and gave them a rinse in water, then cracked them harder:

and then the peeling could begin:

And a final shot of most of the eggs we did. The boys loved it and thought it was super fun to see the cool eggs that did magic things while they slept in the fridge. Mom and Dad were definitely fans too since it was easy and fun, so we might be repeating this method in future years as well.

The Easter Bunny also made a visit to our house on Saturday morning. The boys awoke to find fun things waiting for them at their breakfast chairs.

He also left an egg hunt for the boys to do outside, so a little later after we were dressed and ready we headed outside with baskets in tow to find the eggs the tricky bunny hid.

Logan was super quick to find the first one:

Both boys did an excellent job of taking turns picking up eggs and helping the other find one if it wasn't their turn and they saw one....such good brothers.

This picture cracks me up simply because if I would have taken a video instead of a picture you would hear Logan freaking out. That egg was next to a spider web and Logan has recently developed a crazy fear of bugs in general, but especially spiders and things that fly, so being the nice parents that we are, we refused to get it for him and made him pick it up if he wanted the candy. Of course the candy won, he picked it up and amazingly no one died! I don't even think the spider came out of it's hole, but at the moment Logan was convinced it was going to eat him.....oh we are mean parents...oh well:

The Easter Bunny even hid some up the hill so the boys hiked up to find some more:

Finally all the eggs were found and the boys showed me their finds as they were asking if they could eat some candy:

Of course they went straight in the house and started on the loot.

Sunday was a quite day. We started with church and had some great lessons, then came home to a quiet afternoon as a family. It was a great way to focus on the true meaning of Easter and reflect on the Savior's atonement and resurrection!

We did finish the day with a super yummy meal...though there are no pictures of it...we did get a few of dessert:

Clark had originally wanted an Easter Bunny cake like a made last year, but I wasn't up for making it this year...plus the last thing I needed was that much leftover chocolate cake around my house, so we agreed that Easter basket cupcakes would be ok for this year.
He looks pretty happy with the outcome:
