Clark was invited to be part of Rising Stars after school team for our district this year.
This is a program that the TAG or gifted kids get to compete in, however, the younger kids just do the events, but don't compete....they get reviews from judges on their performance, but not judged or given scores.
Since the actual tests for Tag or gifted aren't given until older grades, the younger teams are just made up of 6-8 1st and 2nd graders recommended by teachers. Clark was the only 1st grader selected/asked to be on their team with 5 other 2nd graders.
They were required to do a quick challenge while at the competition that the parents didn't see, then their team challenge they prepared for was writing a play about Roy G Biv (colors of the rainbow) and his Birthday party.
The kids were required to write their play, make their costumes, props, etc. The parents/teacher were not allowed to give them ideas or help them in any way.
They named their team the Brockway Lightening Kids and here is their team picture before their performance:
The following videos are the whole play...it gets long, so watch if you want...the 3rd and 4th one are the majority of the play as the game in the middle got a little long (that's what happens when the adults can't help with props...those dang stickers!)
I think they did a great job and Clark loved his experience!
He came out of his shell some being with the older kids and I was really proud of him for getting on stage....something he was really against when the whole process started.
They got some good review and comments from the judges when they were done:
Maybe he'll get a chance to do it again and build on the things they learned this year.

What a cool opportunity for Clark...the only 1st grader. It was impressive the kids had everything memorized! was this after school work or did he get to miss class? FUN!!
