Soccer

Clark played soccer this spring. It was his real first experience with a team sport and he did really well overall. We signed him up on a team with his friend Ben and Ben's parents were the coaches, so that was nice to have someone on the team with you that you know.

Kindergarten level plays 3 v 3 with open goals, but that was a little hard for Clark. We discovered he is definitely a defender and really doesn't like the open goal, so he is often turning around running for the goal as soon as the other team gets the ball. We all tried to teach him this year to look for the ball and go after the ball on the way back to the goal instead of waiting until you get all the way back to the goal to see were the ball is...he definitely improved, but it will be something we still work on next year as well...unless he just becomes the goalie (since they have those in 1st grade level).

Anyway, Clark had a great season and really is a good little soccer player. He had so much fun and it was fun to watch him improve as the season progressed. He scored 2 goals this season (of course when I didn't have my camera out or ready)!

I forgot my camera at a couple games towards the end, so I don't really have great videos at the end since they are both from the last day/tournament day were the games were really short and it was hard for the kids to really get into a rhythm, but that's ok.

This day we were playing a team of other kids from his Kindergarten class, so first we needed to have a talk about it being ok to score of friends..since they would try to score on him too...and that it was just a fun game, then he was a little more excited to play against friends:

This video is classic Clark running away from the ball towards the goal simply because the other team has it and is heading that way....definitely still working on the look at the ball as you fun thought:

Overall, he did amazing and it was a super fun season. It was a great first experience. We debating whether we will do Fall soccer too next year or just wait until spring next year. Either way we will definitely be doing soccer again.
